Bathroom renovation plumbing material checklist for a Gurgaon flat

Everything a single bathroom renovation needs from the pipe inside the wall to the last accessory, in the order it is used: CPVC and fittings, valves, concealed bodies, CP fittings, sanitaryware, drainage and accessories, with brand pointers (Jaquar, Kohler, Grohe, Hindware, Cera) and the items owners forget.

A bathroom renovation in a Gurgaon flat typically takes two to three weeks, and almost every delay we hear about traces back to a missing material item: the concealed body that was not ordered with the pipe, the flush plate that arrived in a different finish, the floor trap that did not match the tile thickness. This checklist is organised in the order the plumber needs things, so you can order in two lots and have nothing missing.

Stage 1: concealed work (needed on day one)

This is everything that goes inside the wall and floor before tiling.

Pipes and fittings. CPVC SDR 11 for hot, CPVC SDR 13.5 or UPVC for cold, in 25 mm branch and 20 mm drops, with elbows, tees, reducers, unions and brass-insert transition fittings for every tap point. Solvent cement of the same brand as the pipe. Our CPVC vs UPVC guide covers the choice.

Valves. One full-way ball valve on the hot and one on the cold feed into the bathroom so it can be isolated without shutting the flat. Concealed stop cocks (angle valves) at every fixture: two for the basin, one for the WC, one for the health faucet, two for the geyser, one for the washing machine if it lives in the bathroom.

Concealed mixer bodies. If you are using a concealed shower mixer or diverter (the modern wall-flush look), the body goes in at this stage and the visible trim comes at finishing. Order the body and the trim together from the same series so they match; this is the most commonly forgotten item on the list.

Concealed cistern. For a wall-hung WC, the concealed cistern frame and tank go into the wall now. Decide wall-hung versus floor-mounted before the pipe is run, because the drain position differs.

Drainage. 110 mm SWR for the WC, 75 mm for the shower and floor traps, 50 mm for the basin, with the floor traps themselves (multi-floor traps or Nahani traps) bought to suit the final floor level and tile thickness.

Geyser point. 20 mm CPVC SDR 11 hot and cold with unions, a 16A socket and a dedicated MCB (covered in the electrical guide).

Waterproofing. Not plumbing material, but order it now: a cementitious or acrylic waterproofing system for the floor and 300 mm up the wall, before the tiler arrives.

Stage 2: finishing (needed after tiling)

Sanitaryware.

  • WC: wall-hung with concealed cistern, or floor-mounted one-piece or two-piece. Rimless designs are easier to keep clean. Seat cover with soft close.
  • Basin: counter-top, under-counter, wall-hung or pedestal, matched to the vanity drawing.
  • Flush plate for the concealed cistern, in the finish chosen for the CP fittings.

Brands: Hindware, Cera, Jaquar, Kohler, Parryware, with Kohler and Jaquar's premium ranges at the top.

CP fittings. All in one series and finish (chrome is standard; matte black, brushed gold and gunmetal are popular but cost more and need matching accessories).

  • Basin mixer (single-lever) or pillar taps with a separate hot and cold.
  • Shower: overhead rain shower with arm, hand shower with hose and holder, and the mixer or diverter trim.
  • Health faucet with angle valve and hook.
  • Bib cock for the bucket point, and one for the washing machine if needed.
  • Bath spout if there is a tub or a bucket-fill point.
  • Waste coupling and bottle trap for the basin.

Brands: Jaquar (Kubix, Continental, Florentine, Alive, Aria series), Kohler, Grohe, Hindware, Cera, Roca. Jaquar is the default in Gurgaon for value and spare availability; Kohler and Grohe where the designer specifies.

Accessories. Towel rail or ring, robe hooks, soap dish, tumbler holder, paper holder, shelf, mirror, mirror light. Order in the same finish as the CP fittings.

Drainage finishing. Floor-trap gratings or a linear drain for the shower area, matched to the tile.

Geyser. 15 to 25 litre storage for a bathroom with a shower, 6 to 10 litre instant for a basin-only point. Racold, AO Smith, Havells, Bajaj, Crompton.

Exhaust fan. 150 mm to 250 mm, with a louvre on the outside.

Items owners forget

  1. The concealed body for the shower mixer. Ordered with the trim at finishing, discovered after the tiles are on.
  2. Angle valves. Six to eight per bathroom; people count the taps and forget the valves under them.
  3. Flush plate finish. Chrome plate on a matte-black bathroom.
  4. Waste coupling and bottle trap. Not included with most basins.
  5. Shower arm and hose. Sold separately from the showers in many series.
  6. Hooks, holders and the toilet-paper holder, which end up as a last-minute hardware-shop buy that does not match.
  7. A spare floor trap when the first one does not suit the tile thickness.

Choosing between a wall-hung and floor-mounted WC

Wall-hung with concealed cistern looks cleaner and is easier to mop under, but needs a 150 to 200 mm thick wall or a ledge to house the cistern, costs more, and the drain must be in the wall at the right height. Floor-mounted is cheaper, simpler and the right call when the existing drain is in the floor and you are not moving it. Decide this before stage 1 because the pipe routing differs.

Ordering

Send the full list in two parts, concealed and finishing, with the CP and sanitaryware series named. A dealer should quote it as one and dispatch it in two lots timed to the plumber. At JP Pro Supply we do exactly that for bathrooms across Gurgaon and NCR; see the plumbing and sanitary supply page.

Frequently asked questions

How much plumbing material does one bathroom renovation need?

Roughly 20 to 30 metres of CPVC and UPVC with 30 to 50 fittings, 6 to 8 angle valves and 2 ball valves, one WC with cistern or seat, one basin with waste and trap, a basin mixer, a shower set with mixer or diverter, a health faucet, one or two bib cocks, floor traps and gratings, and 6 to 10 accessories. Costs depend almost entirely on the CP and sanitaryware series chosen.

Should I buy Jaquar or Kohler bath fittings?

Jaquar offers the widest range and the easiest spare parts across Gurgaon at a lower price; Kohler sits higher in finish and design and is the usual choice where a designer has specified the look. Both are reliable. Pick one series and buy everything in that series and finish.

What is a concealed cistern and is it worth it?

A cistern that sits inside the wall behind a wall-hung WC, operated by a flush plate. It gives a cleaner look and an easy-to-clean floor but costs more and needs a thick enough wall. Worth it in a full renovation where the wall is being rebuilt; less so in a quick refresh.

Can I renovate a bathroom without breaking the concealed pipes?

Yes, if the existing CPVC is sound and the fixture positions stay the same. You can replace CP fittings, sanitaryware and tiles while leaving the pipe. Have the plumber pressure-test the old lines first; a renovation is the cheapest time to find a weak joint.
